Los Altos consistently ranks high among the most expensive U.S. cities, with home prices upwards of $10 million not uncommon. Forbes recently ranked Los Altos zip codes 94022 and 94024 as the 63rd and 66th most expensive zip codes in America. (The United States has about 42,100 zip codes.) The premier home currently on the market is a $12,750,000 gated estate with a theater, wine salon, outdoor kitchen, pool and guest house.Yet on the other end of the spectrum are 14 homes and townhomes priced more moderately, between $1,099,000 and $1,999,000. That’s close to half of the 35 current homes for sale in Los Altos.

Los Altos homes at the higher end
While it doesn’t take a vast amount of money to live in Los Altos, the city would never have ranked so high on the Forbes list mentioned above without a fine selection of some of the most luxurious – and expensive – homes in the United States. It boasts five bedrooms, four bathrooms, lush hardwood floors, plenty of the latest electronics, huge windows, glass doors and a one-bedroom guest house complete with kitchen and laundry facilities.
A little ways up the scale is an immaculate, newly constructed home situated in the prestigious Los Altos Golf & Country Club area. The home has five bedrooms and four bathrooms within 6,255 square feet. Amenities include museum-quality lighting for fine art, home theater, culinary kitchen, exercise room, wine cellar and two laundry rooms. Asking price: $6,495,000.
