Fall Maintenance for Your Home

Fall Maintenance for Your Home

The summer heat is subsiding and cooler temps are rolling in. Before the weather turns colder and wetter, make sure you’ve taken care of some routine home maintenance.

Inspect The Roof

November marks the beginning of the rainy season in California. Make sure your roof is ready by inspecting, or hiring an inspector to check for broken or missing shingles. A yearly check and repair will save you from larger damage! Throughout the fall, make sure your gutters and downspouts are being checked on a regular basis and cleared of leaves and other debris. This will keep water from collecting on your roof and prevent wood rot and other damage. While keeping downspouts clear, make sure they are also set properly to keep water draining from the home. Improper drainage causes costly foundation problems.

Check All windows

Most people have their windows cleaned yearly. This is a good time to coordinate an inspection to make sure the caulking and weather stripping along with the frames of the windows are sealed and secure.

Change Furnace Filter

These should be changed every 3-6 months, depending on what kind you have. Changing your filters will keep undue stress from your system.

Schedule a Furnace Tune-up

Your furnace has taken the summer off so this is a good time to make sure everything is in working order before you need to use it! Regular maintenance will prolong the life of your furnace and help to prevent costly repairs.

Take Care of Landscaping

Take a look at your landscaping, particularly your trees. Trim or remove branches that could be a problem during rain and wind storms that might occur.

Having a routine maintenance system in place each fall will help ensure that your home, which is your most valuable possession, stays in the best shape possible. Staying on top of home maintenance will save you money in the long run.
