These Kids Don’t Take Shoes For Granted

These Kids Don’t Take Shoes For Granted

Among all the things we tend to take for granted, I would say our shoes are high on the list. We just put them on and wear them without giving it a second thought. But for some children, shoes are never taken for granted – especially when they don’t have any. That’s why I want to introduce an organization called My New Red Shoes. Based in Redwood City, this great nonprofit is here to help improve the lives and self-esteem of children who are homeless or live in low-income circumstances. The organization serves Santa Clara and San Mateo counties here in the Bay Area and also has an outreach in Portland, Oregon. It’s a worthy cause, and it’s easy to get involved and help out.

During its first year (2006), My New Red Shoes partnered with agencies that work with homeless children in the two above-mentioned counties and distributed shoes to 354 children. Awareness and support grew in the ensuing years, and to date, the organization has given the gifts of both new shoes and clothing as well as all-important self-esteem to more than 35,000 children in need.

Because we believe so strongly in the mission of My New Red Shoes at Sereno Group, we are donating 1% of our gross commissions between April and June 2016 to help as many children as possible.

Get Involved

Perhaps on your next shopping trip, you could pick up a nice pair of shoes to donate. All you have to do then is drop off or mail the shoes or children’s clothing items to:

My New Red Shoes, 330 Twin Dolphin Drive suite 135, Redwood City, CA 94065

You also can donate online. A gift of 89 dollars will dress a child from head to toe. Check out the online donation form and see how effective different gift amounts will be. It’s easy!

Some Guidelines

Here are a few things to keep in mind when helping the children with a new pair of shoes:

  • Please donate only new, off-the-shelf shoes
  • Sneakers are ideal. No sandals, flip-flops, boots, or dress shoes
  • Sizes: Girls 8 through Women’s 12; Boys 8 through Men’s 18 (yes, the larger sizes are very much needed)
  • Black or white are the best colors as some school districts have restrictions on red and blue clothing
  • You don’t need to include a price tag/receipt or a shoe box

Join us in giving children in our area something they won’t take for granted!
