LOS ALTOS HILLS

Recognized as one of the most exclusive communities in California – and the United States, for that matter – Los Altos Hills is unique in many ways compared with its sister cities in Silicon Valley.  An incorporated town (in 1956), not a city, Los Altos Hills has no zoning for commercial or industrial activity.  There is no library, telephone exchange or post office.  The minimum allowed lot size for homes is one acre. As a strictly residential community, Los Altos Hills residents enjoy shopping, entertainment, recreation and services such as library and post office in neighboring cities like Los Altos and Cupertino.  Fewer than 8,000 people live in Los Altos Hills, and it is among the wealthiest communities in the U.S.  It is governed by a mayor and council, with numerous committees reporting on issues such as education, environmental initiatives, finance and investment, parks and open space.

Though small in resident numbers, Los Altos Hills and adjacent cities with school districts serving this town provide an outstanding and dynamic education for children in all grades.  Two examples of this are Los Altos High School and Georgina P. Blach Intermediate School, both honored as 2013 California Distinguished Schools.
